Moving your Coalition from Good to Great-Derek Peterson

Kids and Drugs - A new prevention program for parents- Ian Sanderson (RCMP) & Shiela Bradley (AADAC)
In this session, community coalitions previewed a new RCMP/AADAC prevention program for parents which will be released later this year. Parent programs that hold the most promise of success in reducing youth drug abuse aim to improve support and communication in the family by teaching parents skills and techniques related to communication, support and discipline. Kids and Drugs was developed based on these evidence-based principles.
The Alberta Drug Strategy: What’s new?- Marilyn Mitchell (AADAC) & Susan Hutton (AADAC)

“Not everybody’s doing it!”: Most youth don’t—a social norms project- Gayle Thoun & Jessica Gibbon (Prairie Land Youth Interagency / Coalition)
Students often overestimate the behaviour of their peers when it comes to alcohol, drug and tobacco use. To find out the true norms, Prairie Land Regional Division student teams developed and administered a survey to all grades 9 to 12 students. Using the survey results, they developed and implemented a campaign throughout their schools and communities to promote the “most youth don’t” message. Results of this campaign and how other communities can address substance use and abuse from a strength-based approach was addressed. Review Presentation and FAQ
